If global greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced rapidly, only one city in the world will be able to host the Winter Olympics by the end of the 21st century.
This information has been revealed in a new study. The research was published in a journal called Current Issues in Tourism.
The study analyzed climate data from the 1920s to the present day to predict this.
Climate change is causing rapid negative changes in the topography of many places around the world. Cities that were once popular as venues for the Winter Olympics may no longer have natural snow in the future.
This year’s Winter Olympics are currently being held in Beijing, China. And this is the world’s first Winter Olympics where almost 100% of the ice is artificial.
Even by 2050, many host cities in Europe will shut down various winter sports due to lack of snow.
And if climate change occurs and global warming continues, by the year 2100 only Sapporo in Japan will be suitable for hosting the Winter Olympics.🔱
